Ordos Laboratory MWh-level long-term high-temperature industrial thermal energy storage experimental demonstration project
In January 2025, the MWh-level long-duration and high-efficiency high-temperature industrial thermal energy storage pilot plant designed by the company in Ordos laboratory was officially completed and is about to be put into operation. The completion of this device marks a major breakthrough for the laboratory in the field of high-temperature industrial thermal energy storage technology, laying a solid foundation for in-depth verification of the technology’s feasibility, accelerating the industrialization process of the technology, and promoting the application and development of related technologies and demonstration projects in a wider range of fields.
The MWh-scale long-duration high-efficiency high-temperature industrial thermal energy storage pilot device integrates electro thermal conversion technology, innovative heat storage materials and an efficient thermal energy management system. It can efficiently store and release high-quality thermal energy converted from wind and photovoltaic power, meeting the diverse high-temperature thermal energy demands of industrial production. Its core advantages include high electro thermal conversion efficiency, large energy storage density, high thermal energy grade, strong safety, environmental friendliness and low cast. It has broad application prospects and significant economic benefits in zero-carbon industrial steam production, power plant peak shaving, district heating and high-temperature industrial fossil energy substitution, and will provide solid technical support for the large-scale and efficient utilization of renewable energy and deep decarbonization in the industrial sector in China.
